High-frequency wordsListen carefully (7L1)   FrenchSpanishgerman

Starter

For this activity, students have to listen to the teacher and select which words or phrases they hear.

This simple exercise requires some preparation by the teacher. The students should be given a list of words and/or phrases. The teacher should read out some of these (but not all) in random order. Students should listen to the teacher and underline (or highlight) the words and phrases that they hear. As far as possible, this exercise should be conducted in silence, with the obvious exception of the teacher’s voice.

Since the possible list of words is almost limitless, no sample text is provided, but it should not take long to type or write a suitable list related closely to the words and phrases that are currently being taught or revised in class. The teaching objective is best served by choosing words and phrases that are similar in sound and pose more of a challenge, such as j’ai un frère and j’aime mon frère.
