Cubism

These presentations can be used as part of a scheme developing skills in the basic elements of art. Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) is chosen as an exemplar to introduce the idea of a playful approach, where the actual appearance of the visual world is simply a starting point for creativity.

It is recommended that you introduce a range of Cubist images to accompany this project. Show that the formal elements can be used to create a broad range of work from the angular and grey beginnings of the Cubist style around the time of First World War, to the much lighter and optimistic work that emerged in the following decades.
