Reports for children's centres

For some months, primary and secondary schools have been eagerly signing up for our Confidential Reports - Community Issues, which give a detailed picture of how a wide range of social and economic issues affect their local area. We are now pleased to extend the service to children's centres so that they and their users can benefit as well.

The Confidential Report - Community Issues consists of a set of ten maps. Each of these shows the centre's local area shaded according to one of a range of measures of deprivation, including crime, access to services, health and income, among others. Centre managers can use this as a guide to which issues most affect their users and potential users, helping them to target their services to match these needs.

As well as being a valuable tool for general improvement, the Confidential Reports make good evidence for Ofsted inspections, helping to show how the centre is using all the available data as it strives to improve (a key concern under the current inspection framework).

What is more, if centres are able to supply an anonymised list of users' postcodes, we can add these to the maps in the report. This gives even clearer detail about which particular issues are the most important for users, both inside and outside the centre's catchment area.
