Using digital files
A range of supplementary digital files is provided. These may be bitmap (BMP), comma separated value (CSV), database (MDB), Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG), Graphics Interchange Format (GIF), portable document format (PDF), spreadsheet (XLS) or word processing (DOC) files. To access these, either click on the links found in the resource, or click on the Resources tab and then select Digital files from the left-hand menu. All the files can also be found in the folder on your disc called digital_files. You will need Microsoft® Word, Excel, Access, Adobe Reader (or compatible software), a graphics package to open the digital files.
If your computer does not already have Adobe Reader installed, look in the installers folder on your disc for the appropriate installer for your operating system. Alternatively, visit the
Adobe Web site to download the appropriate installer.
Following a link to a digital file may open the file within a browser window. To save a file so that it can be opened in the relevant software and edited, right-click on the link and select Save Target As.... To make PDFs appear in a new window, open Adobe Reader, select Edit>Preferences, click on Internet, and then untick Display PDF in Browser.
