Introduction

The Government continues to cite Ofsted inspections as a key to continuing school improvement. From September 2005, there are two forms of inspection: institutional inspections and subject/survey inspections. This resource is designed to help you, as the head of the Science department, prepare for both kinds of inspection.

In many ways, the preparation for institutional inspection contributes to your readiness for a subject/survey inspection. This section provides background information about both kinds of inspection, and the arrangements which came into force in September 2005.
