Attendance

School attendance is a key area in which the school needs the support of parents. Although in some schools, management of school attendance is the job of the attendance officer, it is still in the interests of all other members of staff, including parent support advisers, to:

• promote school attendance
• be aware of school attendance legislation
• encourage parents to meet their responsibilities to ensure that their children attend school and are punctual.

This section offers some guidance on how to encourage school attendance through pupils’ parents.
