The induction tutor
In a sense, the whole of this resource is about the role of the induction tutor. They are responsible for planning, managing and evaluating the entire process of NQT induction. However, once the programme is up and running, the induction tutor can delegate much of the day-to-day management of NQTs.
This section is about what they cannot delegate; in other words, the elements of the role that require the induction tutor to oversee them personally. In particular, these are:
- the professional development programme (PDP)
- final assessments
- quality assurance
- monitoring, evaluation and review
- the NQT network.
The induction tutor is responsible for the whole process of induction, but it need not be an onerous task. The important thing is planning everything out fully before you start. If you do this effectively, then there is every chance that you will manage the process with flying colours.
