Tutorials

This section contains a set of tutorials that have been specifically designed to develop students’ functional skills. These are similar in style to Functional Skills examination questions, where several questions are asked about a given situation that might be encountered in real life.

The tutorials vary in length from around 20 to 40 minutes (also depending on the ability of the group), but each should fit comfortably into a one-hour lesson. The rest of the lesson can be used to discuss the answers using the worked solutions provided; solutions are provided both as PDF files to print out and give to students and as presentations to use with a projector or interactive whiteboard during whole class teaching.

There are six tutorials in total. If you want to give students practice with a particular concept, perhaps identified using the skills test, you can refer to the following grid to choose a suitable tutorial, or part of a tutorial:

Tutorials 1–4 are designed to be completed without a calculator. A calculator is recommended for Tutorials 5 and 6.
