Introduction
Functional Skills in Mathematics is a set of resources to help mathematics teachers prepare students for Functional Skills examinations, and for the functional skills elements of GCSE examinations. More generally, the materials can also provide basic skills reinforcement for anyone studying mathematics at Key Stages 3 and 4.
Three types of materials are provided: an initial test to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses; a set of tutorials which each base a variety of questions around a single real-world situation; and an extensive array of practice exercises to reinforce specific skills. Used together, these can provide a coherent programme of support to use during a mathematics course or as exam preparation. However, the tutorials and practice exercises are all self-contained and can also be used as a bank of material to dip into as required.
