F1 in Schools Curriculum Resource

About this resource

The F1 in Schools Curriculum Resource is a whole-school project to design, make and then race miniature balsa wood cars powered by compressed gas. It provides guidance to help you to prepare pupils for the F1 in Schools challenge (should your school choose to participate) or alternatively, for you to run a standalone, whole-school project, ending with an in-school challenge. The sessions are ideal for use during school time or in an after-school club. There are three editions:

11-14 Bloodhound SSC

Intended for use with pupils aged between 11 and 14 who are aiming for the Bloodhound SSC level of the F1 in Schools challenge, this edition includes around 60 fully-resourced session plans in the following subjects:

  • art and design
  • citizenship
  • design and technology
  • English
  • enterprise education
  • ICT
  • mathematics
  • PE
  • science.

11-14 F1 Class

Designed to enable pupils to prepare for the F1 Class level of the F1 in Schools challenge, this edition includes the same sessions as the 11-14 Bloodhound SSC edition, plus two extra sessions on aerofoils.

14-19 F1 Class

Organised by topic rather than subject, this edition offers advanced activities for 14- to 19-year-olds to prepare for the the F1 Class level of the F1 in Schools challenge, through a series of session outlines. The elements of the F1 in Schools challenge are mapped to a range of syllabuses, so that work on F1 in Schools can contribute towards the qualifications that students are taking.
