The Government is distributing special extra funds as part of the Curriculum Online initiative for schools to buy digital resources for teaching and learning. This is not limited to just software, but also includes networkable and PDF products. The funding comes in the form of eLearning Credits (eLCs).
English maintained nursery, primary and secondary schools, non-maintained special schools and pupil referral units are eligible for the funding.
By April 2006, schools had received £330 million of eLC money. For the 06-07 year, each eligible school is entitled to £1000 as a starting point plus around £6.58 for each pupil. This will drop to £3.42 per pupil in the 07-08 year.
The funding comes in the form of cash under Standards Fund Grant 122. If you have not received/heard about your school's allocation, contact your local authority. Alternatively see the Curriculum Online site or email help@curriculumonline.gov.uk.
The 06-07 eLC money will expire on 31st August 2007.
The money can be used to purchase digital resources for curriculum delivery that are produced by registered content providers. You simply place your order directly with the supplier, telling them that you wish to use eLCs to purchase the product(s).
Pearson Publishing Group is registered both as a content provider and a retailer with Curriculum Online. This Web site offers a wealth of products and services that can be paid for with eLCs.
