Emotional education to be compulsory by 2011

As explained in the Times Education Supplement on 14 August 2009, all primary schools must teach personal, social and emotional education from 2011. Apart from the staffing and timetable issues that this raises, schools are under pressure to find appropriate, practical resources to support teachers and their pupils.

Pearson Publishing has long been a supplier of personal, social and emotional education materials for primary and secondary schools. Resources such as 50 Activities for Raising Self-Esteem have been particularly popular with pupils of all ages; over 220 copies were sold in the last year alone.

Some schools aim to address personal, social and emotional education through a holistic approach, integrating the aims of personal, social and emotional education teaching in all areas of the curriculum. Resources such as Pearson Publishing’s Relaxation in Schools can play a key part in helping staff to teach about mental well-being and managing stress, and in so doing, they will be helping to improve pupils’ access to learning across the board.

Pearson Publishing offers a wide range of photocopiable resources specifically for primary schools, including PSHE and Citizenship at KS1 and 2 and Making Your School a Bully-Free Zone.
