Everything you need for KS3
Complete ICT KS3 provides a fully-resourced scheme of work for Years 7, 8 and 9. Students take on the role of an ICT professional to complete 20 practical, real-world assignments covering the Key Stage 3 curriculum. Each assignment is supported by software skills guides, glossaries and handy hints, placing an emphasis on independent learning wherever possible.
Enquiry-based learning
The assignments in Complete ICT KS3 are inherently cross-curricular, and links with other subjects are mapped out for your convenience. This makes the resource ideal to use as part of a programme of enquiry-based learning, as well as encouraging students to apply the ICT skills they are learning to immediately practical situations.
Guidance for the teacher
Each assignment has a comprehensive set of teaching notes, which includes:
- curriculum coverage (ICT and cross-curricular)
- starters and plenaries
- homework
- how to alter or adapt the assignment
- differentiation (including scaffolding files)
- extension work
- assessment (including exemplars).
Support for APP
Complete ICT KS3 covers all the requirements of the revised National Curriculum for KS3 ICT and has been mapped to the Assessing Pupils’ Progress assessment criteria.
Innovative tracking and reporting system
Ofsted’s report The Importance of ICT highlighted assessment as one of the weakest areas of secondary ICT. Complete ICT KS3 is supported by the Tracker system, which makes it easy to:
- monitor students’ progress through each unit of work
- assign level descriptors that reflect the student’s overall achievement
- assess work carried out in other subjects as part of ICT assessment.
Tracker is accessed online, so students can see what they have accomplished and what they need to do next at any time, anywhere there is an Internet connection. This means that they can take responsibility for their own learning, progressing at their own pace and asking for help when they need it. Tracker offers:
- three grades reflecting content, attitude and effort
- a way for the student and teacher to leave comments for each other
- a simple and intuitive method for designating National Curriculum levels.
This can save time and help individuals take greater ownership of their work, as well as gaining more immediate feedback on their efforts.
Real benefits for teacher and student
Complete ICT KS3’s flexible format will:
- foster autonomous learning skills
- provide opportunities for peer tutoring
- help students prepare for either vocational or academic courses at KS4 and beyond
- allow access to the higher levels of attainment at KS3
- get round problems of absence and missed work.
Activities set in real contexts
Work is based around sets of practical assignments. These are interesting, involving and linked by common themes. They build on skills developed and are increasingly challenging. It is intended that students can move from task to task at their own pace.
Skills material
While the assignments can be performed using any software, there is a large amount of skills training material included on popular Microsoft® products:
- Windows
- PowerPoint
- Word
- Internet Explorer
- Excel
- Publisher
- Access
Easy lessons
These provide knowledge on key topics plus simple lessons on making an independent start with the necessary software.
Comprehensive help
The help section covers a range of important issues and is designed to assist even very inexperienced users.
Glossary
Clear, easy-to-understand explanations are given for words, abbreviations and technical phrases.
Anytime, anywhere access
Since it is all done via a Web site, staff can be logging information wherever they have Internet access, be it in school or at home. In addition, students can show parents or carers their grades and comments at home, throughout the course.
