There is then a CD-ROM for each curriculum department – either encourage your colleagues to purchase their own disc, or buy the series for the school at a substantially reduced price.
Subject-specific, department-led
Each CD-ROM in the Gifted and Talented in... series offers a head of department:
- a sample policy on gifted and talented provision in the department
- audits using the Classroom Quality Standards (CQS), where applicable
- advice on how the department’s existing resources may cover the CQS
- tried-and-tested approaches to gifted and talented provision.
A range of handy checklists and handouts is also included, and all the material can be adapted to meet the department’s particular needs.
Focused support for able students
The Gifted and Talented in... series looks at how individual subject departments can help each student develop their full potential. The material includes:
- a student register, in which the department can record why each student was selected as ‘gifted and talented’, and on what evidence the decision was based
- guidance on how to track students’ progress and balance the demands placed on them
- advice on how to run a stimulating programme of activities which keeps students motivated
- advice on offering gifted and talented material as part of an extended schools programme
- tips on how to stimulate a wider appreciation of the subject.
