Virtual Visits - Geography

Chris Pellant, Helen Pellant, Jack Gillett, Meg Gillett and Liz Taylor

Multimedia resource for teaching and learning

With falling budgets, it is not always easy for schools to provide varied and authentic fieldwork experience. This software series gives a feeling of fieldwork without the expense.

Convenient CD-ROM format

Delivered through a standard Web browser and suitable for use on a network, with the whole class having simultaneous access, these Virtual Visitsare designed to be very simple to use even for the non-specialist. Accompanied by detailed teacher's notes and differentiated student worksheets, there are actual fieldwork tasks and opportunities for real data analysis.

Supporting the National Curriculum, this gives KS3 pupils an experience of place and KS4 students ideas for individual studies and a comparison for their own field work. Unlike a real visit, there are no time constraints – students are able to revisit particular features as many times as they like and to study them for as long as they like. Each trip is a compilation of pictures, maps, drawings and text which help the pupil to put the sites into their correct geographical contexts.
