Practical ICT through 11 curriculum subjects
A series of three innovative packs designed to help ICT coordinators and teachers of other subjects deliver the Key Stage 3 ICT requirements.
Support for specialists and non-specialists
The packs have been written for use by staff teaching ICT or other subjects including RE. All tasks not only cover the ICT requirements but also offer imaginative subject-specific coverage. Therefore the ICT delivery uses time twice. Care has been taken to provide teachers of other subjects with the ICT support they need and ICT teachers with all the subject-specific material required for the activities.
Units specifically addressing elements of English, Mathematics, Science, Art and Design, Design and Technology, Geography, History, Modern Foreign Languages, Music and Religious Education are provided. The delivery of each unit can be discrete, or as part of a complete package covering the KS3 ICT requirements and has been designed to fit in with any delivery model. In addition, assessment is made easy, with clear indications of PoS, and helpful indicators on Level Descriptors and how students can improve their attained levels.
Tasks are designed to stretch abilities and to be open-ended. School-specific information (deadlines, modifications, specific ICT information) can easily be incorporated. The packs are written for pupil use and designed to build as a portfolio for summative assessment.
Practical ICT skills in real contexts
The ICT skills developed through the activities include:
- Databases – Castles, chemicals, comparing weather data
- Spreadsheets – Probability
- Computer art packages – Designing bags for a large department store
- Control –Traffic lights and pelican crossings
- Word processing and desktop publishing – Producing a poster setting out the seven commandments in Animal Farm.
