Practice Exercises in ICT Skills
Mary Rogers and Duncan Smith
Give your students the skills they need
Information and Communication Technology is a practical subject and schools must ensure that students have not only a thorough theoretical knowledge but also the practical skills to go with it. These skills aid and reinforce learning and retention of the subject while preparing the student for the real world.
Application and hardware independent
While they form an ideal companion to the Learn Series, the packs within this series are:
- application and platform independent
- appropriate for use with both pupils and staff
- readily integrated into any existing or planned course.
Progressive activities in real contexts
Practice Exercises in ICT Skills offer activities at a selection of levels (providing helpful progression) and cover a range of important application types. Furthermore, they provide relevant contexts for the exercises and involve students in real-life problems.
12 complete exercises per pack
Each pack contains 12 exercises plus support sheets, a glossary of terms and references to both the National Curriculum and relevant vocational courses. As such, it can be viewed as the basis for a whole course, as a valuable resource for extra work on a particular set of skills, or as a bank of self-contained activities to be dipped into as required.
The exercises cover a broad range of skills; some are single, stand-alone units, others form themed series of increasing complexity. Each exercise contains:
- clear descriptions of the overall goals
- detailed instructions of individual steps and tasks
- generic diagrams to aid progress and understanding
- highlighted keywords to enable easy use of on-line help functions
- summary of skills covered
- extensive teacher support with answers and notes on discussion points
- ideas and suggestions for extension work.
