- Make the most of the 2008 curriculum
- Focus on thinking skills
A golden opportunity
The revised secondary curriculum comes into force in September 2008, giving schools the chance to change their approach to teaching and learning at Key Stage 3. The emphasis on thinking skills, rather than prescribed content, gives schools the freedom to investigate alternative learning structures.
Platform (Personal Learning and Thinking for the Mind) outlines one way of doing this. The guidance, provided on CD-ROM, has been developed Burnt Mill Secondary School in Harlow, where it is already producing remarkable results.
Something for every school
Platform has students’ personal, learning and thinking skills as its main focus, taking a whole school approach to developing key competencies. Individual subjects are all taught within this framework, with an emphasis on enquiry-based learning.
Platform forms an ideal companion to The Learning Journey, although it can also be used as a stand-alone resource. It is valuable either as a full blueprint for a new curriculum, or as a bank of ideas for schools who are looking to improve student engagement and the teaching of thinking skills.
