- Put personalisation at the heart of your curriculum
- Benefit from tried and tested ideas
- Engage and involve even difficult students
An innovative approach
Personalised learning is currently one of the Government’s top priorities – schools are encouraged to structure their curriculum to suit the different and changing needs of individual students. The Learning Journey is designed to help you do just that.
Innovative and very creative
Ofsted, 2007
Involve students
The Learning Journey is an exciting resource based on ideas developed at Burnt Mill Secondary School in Harlow, which has been praised by Ofsted for its innovative and creative approach to curriculum development.
Using the guidance and sample documentation provided in The Learning Journey, your students will benefit from:
- a thorough consultation process
- mentoring by pastoral leaders
- a flexible curriculum built around a skills-based core (see Platform)
- a ‘stage not age’ philosophy – if a student is ‘ready’, they can accelerate their journey rather than be kept back artificially
- the chance to follow a range of examination courses.
As well as full background information and guidance, The Learning Journey includes:
- sample policies
- template letters
- forms and checklists
- case studies, showing how a broad spectrum of individuals have had their needs met and become successful, confident learners.
A proven system
Each student’s personal curriculum is seen as a journey: they travel towards their destination at their own pace and choose a route according to their own needs and aptitudes.
At Burnt Mill, the results of this approach have been remarkable. Students are re-engaged and enthused, and all are aware of where they want to get to and most importantly, how they can (and will) get there.
Practical help for staff
Provided on CD-ROM, The Learning Journey comes with a full site licence. The resource includes numerous forms, checklists and handouts to help you save time and put the ideas into practice as smoothly as possible.
