KS3 Art & Design is an exciting publication on CD-ROM that provides a suite of resources to enhance the teaching and learning of Art & Design at Key Stage 3. Designed to support whole departments, it includes:

Ideal for the whole department

Heads of department can save time and provide extra support to colleagues. Members of the department (particularly inexperienced and non-specialist staff ) can develop their teaching and encourage independent learning amongst students. Students can work productively on their own and in their own time.

Arresting but practical applications of ICT

At the heart of the resource are 12 striking project presentations in Microsoft® PowerPoint, which are themed to provide clear links to a particular art context. Each presentation shows the sequential creation of a piece of artwork, with comprehensive onscreen notes for students. The presentations end with a chance to watch the image grow in stages, without notes, focusing on the purely visual evolution of a piece of art.

A balance of the old and the new

Five of the presentations demonstrate how digital technology can be used to create art by using digital photographs and image manipulation software, rather than traditional materials.

Whole class or independent use

Each presentation can be used in a whole class teaching context, or it can be used as part of a department’s independent learning resources, where students can revisit the lessons in their own time. This is an ideal set of resources for use with projectors and interactive whiteboards.

Year 7: Colour and Drawing

Year 8: Basic Elements

Year 9: Visual Movement

Real help and support

All the materials are carefully linked together both by the attractive interface (that runs through standard Web-browser software) and the curriculum framework. The extensive selection of additional resources can be used either onscreen or printed out and come with both a network and copy licence. Guidance is provided on using the materials for cover lessons and homework. Teacher assessment and student self-assessment is also covered.
