Support PSHE and SEAL
A programme of activities to enhance self-esteem needs to be an integral part of every PSHE curriculum, particularly with the introduction of social and emotional aspects of learning (SEAL) in both primary and secondary schools. Using the different approaches in 50 Activities for Raising Self-Esteem to develop a high, healthy level of self-esteem is a way of cultivating present potential and helping pupils to become confident, happy, responsible citizens.
Ideal for pastoral care
The activities can be used in PSHE lessons, circle times, tutorials and are ideal for incorporating into a whole school policy on behaviour, discipline and bullying. The pack sets out to help all participants to maintain or achieve high levels of self-esteem and emotional literacy so that pupils will not only hold strong feelings of self-respect and inner worth in all circumstances, but also have the confidence to deal with any difficulty which life may present.
A wealth of ideas
Pupils will look at their patterns of behaviour in a variety of ways and learn to distinguish between those which have a positive influence on their lives and those which impede self-fulfilment. The conclusion of the 1970 British Cohort Study, published in July 2003, states that children who had plenty of self-esteem and had good friendships with others enjoyed better chances of success as adults. 50 Activities for Raising Self-Esteem seeks to address these issues.
Student worksheets accompany many of the activities and comprehensive teacher's notes help to support them. The activities can also be used in after school clubs, youth clubs and with adult groups.
