CPD
Once teachers are used to keeping their CPD portfolios up-to-date, and a review process is in place, you should have a good idea of each member of staff’s aspirations and skills.
Indeed, after the end-of-cycle meeting, the next step in the performance management cycle for the teacher is putting the recommendations into practice. The link between performance management and CPD should be a strong one. An appraisal should highlight a teacher’s strengths and weaknesses, at which point there should be a discussion on how to capitalise on strengths, and improve weaknesses. Continuing professional development (CPD) is a key way to help teachers meet their aspirations and improve their practice. However, finding appropriate CPD for each teacher can be difficult.
This section offers some guidance on how best to pinpoint the type of professional development required for each teacher.
