Introduction
Citizenship has been a statutory curriculum subject for Key Stages 3 and 4 since August 2002. An ever-increasing number of resources and Web sites exist to help you cover the subject; however, this choice can be overwhelming and difficult to form into a cohesive whole.
This easy-to-use, comprehensive resource is designed for citizenship teachers and coordinators, with a separate section for students. It can either be used section-by-section or as a bank of materials to be dipped into. It includes delivery advice and a wide range of material that can be printed out at your convenience. Resources may also be of use for homework, cover lessons and assessment.
In January 2005, Ofsted evidence found that citizenship was the ‘worst taught subject at secondary level’ and that 25% of classes were still unsatisfactory. As a teacher and/or coordinator of citizenship, you may be looking for advice about improving the way citizenship education is delivered or embedded in your school, the National Curriculum citizenship guidelines or the content of a particular citizenship lesson. The Citizenship Toolkit provides a whole range of resources and information to help with this.
