Below are details of some organisations that can help you be more active in your school, community, country or the world.
British Youth Council
This is an independent organisation representing youth organisations. It promotes the participation of young people in society and public life. It runs lots of activities and events such as Parliamentary Youth Forums. The Council also runs local youth council projects and offers advice and resources.
Citizenship Foundation
The Citizenship Foundation runs three major competitions that you or your school can get involved in: the Youth Parliament Competition, the Bar National Trial Competition, and the Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial Competition. There are also other activities.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
This is an international, voluntary programme which involves practical, cultural and adventurous activities. It is for people aged 14-25 and involves service, expeditions and all sorts of skills. The site ‘What’s in it for you’ gives an insight into the benefits of getting involved and stories from people who have taken part.
G-Nation
This is an organisation developed to support the Giving Campaign. This has been designed to encourage people to understand the power of giving and the importance of charities in shaping a fairer world.
Global Gateway
This is a Web site that helps students, teachers, parents and other educationalists to develop an international dimension through global school linking, exchanges and activities.
The National Youth Agency
This is an organisation supporting young people’s community action, participation and influence in society. It runs various projects, as well as the Philip Lawrence Awards which recognise outstanding achievements in active citizenship in young people.
