For your convenience we've included a link to the DfES NRA downloads page where you can download templates of the current stationery . We also have a tip for users wishing to print out onto NRA continuation paper.
If the answer to your problem is not listed here, you can contact our technical support team.
If you have an early version (prior to version 1.3, for example) of Profile: NRA and CV Writer, you may experience problems when a large number of people all try and use the software simultaneously over a network. Networking has been significantly improved in later versions - please contact us for an upgrade, which may be provided free of charge in certain cases.
If you have a Novell network, you may be able to improve matters by increasing the maximum number of available locks on the server. Add the following to entries to the server's autoexec.ncf file:
set maximum record locks per connection = 10000
set maximum record locks = 200000
Profile: NRA and CV Writer uses a file called PROGRESS.LDB (note the extension) to maintain information about which parts of the database are locked for updating. If you persistently see the above message, then:
- Make sure no one is using the software.
- Delete PROGRESS.LDB (but not PROGRESS.MDB).
If you have a version of Profile: NRA and CV Writer before 1.2.0, then you may find that items in the Personal Details section of printouts are not sorted in correct date order. Contact us for an upgrade. When you receive your upgrade, enter Administration mode. You should be prompted to update student data files.
Note when upgrading to versions earlier than 1.4.1 you may also be asked to update several .RPT file that will be stored in the same folder as the student data.
Versions of Profile: NRA and CV Writer before 1.1.2 may cause a GPF (General Protection Fault) under certain circumstances on Windows 3.1 or 3.11 when you invoke the spell checker function. Please contact us on 01223 350555 for an upgrade if you experience this problem.
If you have tried the methods specified in General problems and are still getting the above message, then:
- If you are running Windows 3.1 or 3.11, then check that you have the file PCTREE16.DLL on your hard disk. If not, then copy it from the Profile CD-ROM into your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
- Try moving or renaming the following files and reinstalling the software:
For Windows 3.1 or 3.11:
CRYSTL16.OCX
CRPE.DLL
CRXLATE.DLL
UXDDISK.DLL
UXFDIF.DLL
UXFREC.DLL
UXFSEPV.DLL
UXFTEXT.DLL
PDBDAO.DLL
PDCTDAO.DLL
PDIRDAO.DLL
PDSODBC.DLL
PDBBND.DLL
MFCOLEUI.DLL
For Windows 95, 98 and NT4:
CRYSTL32.OCX
CRPE32.DLL
CRPAIG32.DLL
CRXLAT32.DLL
U2DDISK.DLL
U2FDIF.DLL
U2FREC.DLL
U2FSEPV.DLL
U2FTEXT.DLL
P2BDAO.DLL
P2CTDAO.DLL
P2IRDAO.DLL
P2SODBC.DLL
P2BBND.DLL
IMPLODE.DLL
Versions of Profile: NRA and CV Writer before 1.1.0 required the copying of a number of files from the ODF directory on the CD-ROM onto the hard disk or network. This is now done by the installer, as detailed in the addendum to the manual. Select "complete data files install" to have the installer copy the files for you.
