Issues resolved in version 1.1
The following installer issues were resolved before version 1.1 of Mentor Question System. If you are about to perform an installation you are recommended to upgrade to the latest version, which can be downloaded free from this site.
- My ePacks CD-ROM appears damaged
- 'System Components not Selected'
- Missing File MSVCIRT.DLL
- Run Time Error 31037
- On running Publisher or Receiver, I get the message "Could not load or register custom control CSWSK32.OCX"
- Launching Mentor Receiver works fine at first, but then one or more of the tabs always appear blank, preventing me from connecting to any tests.
Although they were orignially advertised as 'Computerised Questions', the questions that are distributed on ePacks are now known as 'Question Sets...' - accordingly they now appear further down the alphabetical list of ePacks.
When unlocking a purchased Question Set from your ePacks CD, you will be prompted to save one or more .EGO files (the acual questions sets), and possibly one or more .TX_ files (sets of filters for use with the bank of questions contained in the Question Set). It is important that you save these files with the correct extensions in order for them to be recognised by Mentor Question System.
Question Set files must be viewed using the Mentor Question System. They cannot be accessed using Adobe Acrobat. If you are having trouble viewing them it may be that you accidentally saved the files with a .PDF extension instead of .EGO.
The 8-page leaflet that accompanies Mentor orders is only a 'getting started' guide. A full manual is provided in PDF format, both on ePacks CD-ROMs, and to download (see above) from our Web site.
When Mentor Publisher has not yet been registered, tests published using it are restricted to just 20 user sessions. In order to publish tests for over 30,000 users, you will need to register. If you have purchased question sets from Pearson Publishing (distributed on ePacks CD-ROMs) then you will already have the ePack number that you need to do so.
Once you have registered you will need to re-publish the test using a registered copy. Alternatively, as a short-term fix, you can delete the answer (.ans) file that has become full, allowing another 20 users to take the test.
Under certain circumstances you will receive 'Could not open macro storage' errors from Microsoft Word 97 when attempting automation questions in Mentor Receiver or previewing them in Mentor Publisher.
This error can occur if an installation of Word has become corrupted, and also if Word 97 has not been updated to at least Service Release 1. The cure is to reinstall Word, and/or to upgrade to Service Release 1 or 2. Service Releases 1 and 2 for Microsoft Office 97 can be downloaded free of charge from Microsoft's Office Update Web site, and are also available on the Microsoft Year 2000 Resource CD.
Microsoft's Web site has related information on some other ways this error may occur, with suggested solutions and workarounds:
