General problems
If the answer to your problem is not listed here, you can contact our technical support team.
To resolve this problem:
- Try moving or renaming the file in question, then reinstalling the software.
- "Manually register" the control, as described below.
If the message refers to CRYSTL32.OCX or CRYSTL16.OCX (this applies chiefly to versions of Profile prior to 1.4.1), then there are further steps that can be taken.
To "manually register" an OCX; Windows 95, 98 and NT4:
- Click the Start button and select Run from the Start menu.
- In the dialog box which pops up, type REGSVR32.EXE followed by a space and then the name of the OCX file.
- eg REGSVR32.EXE CRYSTL32.OCX registers the Crystal Reports OCX.
To "manually register" an OCX; Windows 3.1 and 3.11:
- Switch to Program Manager. From the File menu, select Run.
- In the dialog box which pops up, type REGSVR.EXE followed by a space and then the name of the OCX file.
- eg REGSVR.EXE CRYSTL16.OCX registers the Crystal Reports OCX.
This message is usually due to a system file not having been installed. See Installing on a network for more information.
The installers for our software products, as well as placing the application file and associated data files in the directory you specify, also install various system files onto the local machine which are necessary for the program to run. These files must be present on any machine that is to run the application. You can still have the program on a shared drive - just run the installer on each machine, specifying each time that the application be placed in the same directory on the network drive.
If you use a non-standard setting for the font and font size used for menus, button text, etc., then you may find that some of these are truncated. Choose a standard setting:
Windows 95, 98 and NT4
- From the Start menu, select Settings, then Control Panel.
- Double-click the Display control panel.
- On the Display control panel, click the Appearance tab.
- select Windows Standard from the list under Scheme.
- Click the Settings tab, and select Small Fonts from the list under Font Size.
- Click Apply, then close the control panel.
Windows 3.1 and 3.11
- In Program Manager, open the Main program group, and double-click Windows Setup.
- From the Options menu, select Change System Settings.
- In the dialog box that appears, check that the selected item in the list next to Display does not include the words "Large Fonts". If it does, then choose an alternative setting. Make sure you know that the setting you choose works with your display adaptor, as Windows may not start up if you make the wrong selection.
When running installations on NetLM systems some system components may be installed to the temporary system folder (on drive T:) rather than in their correct location on drive U. You can confirm this issue by examining the contents of INSTALL.LOG file generated during installation - it lists the destinations of all installed files.
Errors that you may experience as a result include (but are not limited to):
- OLE Automation errors
- Errors loading or registering custom controls
- Error 367, or 424
Simply copying any misplaced files to the correct location is not always sufficient to cure the problem. Instead you need to force a complete installation to take place with all files going to the right places first time. Some installers, like that for Mentor Question System, provide a command-line switch '/W' which adds an extra screen to the install process. This extra screen gives you the chance to override the default Windows and System folder locations, and to set them to the correct location.
To launch an installer in this mode:
- Switch to Program Manager. From the File menu, select Run.
- In the dialog box which pops up, type the full path and name of the installer followed by a space and then the required switch.
If the installer does not recognise the /W switch then no extra screen will be presented.
